We are honored to have Lee Safran, local psychotherapist and specialist is post partum depression and transitioning to parenthood, speak to us on February 25th. She will be discussing how partners become parents and how to address issues that may come up during that transition.
Lee has a masters degree in psychology from the California
Institute of Integral Studies, and she is licensed to practice
in California as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFC#35387). She have worked with clients in private practice and in agencies
since 1992. Her training has been diverse, integrating numerous
points of view within the field of psychology. Besides many
seminars on various approaches and methods, she has more extensive
training in self psychology, object-relations and intersubjective
models - all in the realm of contemporary psychodynamic theory.
Lee says:
Having children and raising a family
create endless transitions and opportunities for growth.
Parenting stages include; deciding whether or not to have
children, dealing with pregnancy changes or infertility
issues, adjusting to having a new child and the ongoing
developmental stages as children mature. During all of these
stages new challenges emerge, and change of any kind brings
with it a period of instability and adjustment
Along with great joy and pleasure,
parents are frequently surprised by the intensity of difficult
feelings which they can experience - anger, frustration,
sadness and self doubt are but a few. These feelings can
tap into one's own personal history and parents find themselves
acting in ways that belie their wishes for themselves and
their families.
